YachtmasterThe RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Offshore theory course covers both Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore. It is the required level of theory for the RYA Coastal Skipper practical course or the RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Coastal and Yachtmaster Offshore Examinations.

Advanced training for more experienced skippers building on the Day Skipper course. This course equips you to navigate safely on coastal and offshore passages. It allows some time for revision of the basics and then moves on to advanced navigation techniques. This course concentrates on more advanced skills in offshore & coastal navigation by day & night, pilotage & meteorology.

The course takes approximately 40-50 hours with a long assessment of 3 parts (IRPCS:1.5 hours, Chartwork 2 hours and Passage Making 3:5 hours). These can be taken in one sitting or as 3 separate papers.

  • Course Overview: Advanced training for more experienced skippers.
  • Previous experience required: Day Skipper Practical.
  • Assumed Knowledge: Navigation to Day Skipper theory standard.
  • Minimum Age: None.

Course access is for six months, this can be extended if required for a further six months for a fee of 50€.

All exams and assessments can be taken online in your own home or they can be done here with us before you head out on your practical week.

Ability after the course: Background knowledge to skipper a yacht on coastal passages by day and night.

Invigilated Assessments.

Invigilation may be required for all theory courses if they are to be used commercially. These can be offered for free to anyone who books an online course with us and who requires an invigilated assessment here at Sailing School Brittany. We can also arrange invigilated assessments elsewhere in the world, at a cost.
